Resumé Check is a member of the American National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), which exists to promote ethical business practices and foster awareness of issues related to consumer protection and privacy rights within the background screening industry. The NAPBS promotes the advancement and integrity of the industry by establishing standardised industry technology, ethical guidelines for consumer report practices and security standards for consumer information. Qualifying members have access to relevant training programmes and continuing professional development, thus empowering them to better serve clients and better understand the industry, its operations, and legal and regulatory requirements. By representing over 500 companies, including several international pre-employment screening firms, the NAPBS provides a unified voice for the industry and ensures that standards of excellence are maintained.

Resumé Check is a member of an international alliance focused on meeting the needs of the fast-paced and challenging work environment of Asian Pacific businesses. The group works to establish best practices, protect the interests of clients and candidates and introduce certification programmes for screening companies – while also helping to raise awareness of the importance of background screening services in the Asia Pacific.

The vision of NAPBS for creating an international alliance includes the following:
 
  • Establishing a worldwide support network for professional background screening firms to collaborate, share information, provide education and resources.
  • Fostering the development of country specific business standards, professionalism, legal and ethical business practices that will significantly enhance the credibility of the background screening industry and expand business opportunities.
  • Create a professional association presence within countries and / or regions that establishes itself as the official representative of professional background screening firms to government entities to provide input, counsel and to influence government actions and legislation that will impact the industry.

James Sutherland - Managing Director

With a Bachelor of Business Studies degree, majoring in Human Resources, a Diploma in Policing and a Master of Business Administration from Massey University, James possesses a diverse portfolio of qualifications and relevant expertise.

A background with the New Zealand Police Force, primarily in the criminal investigation branch in South Auckland, provided James with substantial knowledge and experience of serious crime, including fraud. From 1999 to 2003, he worked in the fraud and security risk division of the largest general insurer in Australia, as Project Manager, Quality Manager and Investigations Team Manager. His specific areas of focus were insurance fraud, risk management and the implementation and design of risk mitigation strategies.

James returned to New Zealand in 2003, working in project management, operational improvement and organisational re-engineering for a major insurance group. During this time, James noticed a number of high profile cases where companies employed staff with questionable qualifications or employment histories, resulting in serious harm to the business, brand reputation and overall productivity of the organisation. When a tightening labour market further emphasised the importance of sorting good candidates from bad, James founded Resumé Check in 2005 to help companies who were looking for that extra competitive edge in the market by ensuring that the right people were employed.
